EARLY DEPARTURE

Early departure, New Harbor, Maine

The first lobster boat left the harbor about 25 minutes before sunrise. It only takes a few minutes to load the barrel with bait for the lobster traps at the wharf but the real hard work starts when they reach the first trap a bit later. The sky to the east was still covered with a band of clouds and the golden light I was hoping for didn’t happen that morning at the end of September. But a story can still be told with the photo. The powerful spot lights on the boat deliver more than just a silhouette and the light in the background helps to tell the story, just in a slightly different way than what I had in mind.
